Ingredients:

  • 1 cup butter (softened)

  • 1 cup sugar

  • a dash of salt

  • 2 tsps. vanilla extract

  • 1 egg

  • 2 1/2 cups flour

Instructions:

  1. Leave butter out to soften.

  2. Combine softened butter and sugar together in a bowl (with an electric mixer or whisk) until mixture is light and fluffy.

  3. Beat in egg and vanilla. Make sure everything is well combined.

  4. In a separate bowl, combine flour and salt. Then add this to your butter mixture and stir together to form a dough.

  5. Cover dough with plastic wrap and chill in the fridge for at least one hour.

  6. Preheat your oven to 440°F or 160°C.

  7. Section off small chunks of dough and mold into a cat shape.

    • We used a mold from Daiso, but you are welcome to try your hand at shaping the cats yourself. Tip: focus on building a circle for the head and an oval for the body with a short tail at the back. The rest of the details can be painted on later.

  8. Place your dough cats on a baking sheet lined with parchment. Leave about half an inch of space between them.

  9. Bake for about 10 minutes, until the edges turn lightly golden.

  10. Transfer to wire rack for cooling.

  11. Once cool, use frosting, food dye, or edible paint to decorate these little guys to your heart’s content. Don’t forget the whiskers!

  12. Voila! You’ve made your very own Butter Cook Cats!
